''Art is as natural as sunshine and as vital as nourishment.'' MaryAnn F. Kohl
Sussex artist Wendy Rowark BA continues her passion for ‘fine art and flowers’ following a successful career in textile design. More recently she has returned to painting in oils. She describes her art as “often having a vintage feel” and one which she intentionally accentuates through careful choices of subject, decorative items and complimentary framing. Her colourful painting and drawings are a celebration of flowers and treasured possessions, fabric grounds and papers collected through the years and 'storytelling' by their selection.
All paintings shown are available - please contact her at Artologie.

"Rebecca Herrington is a Sussex based artist creating photorealist paintings in response to still life arrangements recorded through her own photography. The photographs provide permanent imagery from which to work and also account for the photographic elements including blurring and spots of light in each piece. She uses thinly applied oil paint on canvas on board to convey her aesthetic images. Rebecca covers the full canvas in each sitting allowing for the colours to blur into each other. The paintings are then carefully detailed with emphasis placed on shadow and light, resulting in calm and contemporary images."

“I use quite dry oil paint to capture the chalky, pared back landscapes around me in the South Downs. I like the unfussy nature of using paint in this way, I think it gives a sense of space and silence that I’m trying to find in my work. I like to keep some of the pencil markings that have helped me plan out the painting, especially when painting still life – keeping elements of drawing and a little roughness that keeps me from getting tied up with detail.”
Flo Snook is a Sussex based artist whose childhood was rooted in the landscape of the Sea and South Downs
"Believe it or not, the UK has more coastline than India or Brazil. This is an amazing fact. We have so many inlets, estuaries and islands that as far as shoreline goes, we outrank these enormous countries. We are an island nation, and so it’s no wonder that the sea means so much to us. Having lived most of my life along the coast, I have cultivated a deep connection to it’s harbours, piers, fishing cottages and boats, which I like to capture in my work.”

"My paintings are a reflection of how I see my surroundings.
I see my world in colour and image. A visual dialogue to myself'
" My art chiefly explores my response to shape, light and form. My work is about my reaction to how paint moves and feels on a canvas surface. I am fascinated how traditional methods of painting can transport a two-dimensional representation into a more tangible world."
