Mini Paintings - A Forever Postcard

Teapots and treasures, decorative china and little bottles. I have been collecting fabrics, florals and ephemera since I was a student and everything has a story! My ‘things’ are my visual memories and like many I am connected to these decorative items by place, time and smell. Ive been known to transport myself back to an evening out by reading a receipt left purposefully in a handbag last used ten years ago!

I’m not alone and while some may consider this collecting, 'hoarding', for me it is a part of the creative process. Now I am so content surrounded by familiarity, intentions and curiosities and have started to paint from them with a vintage feel which I have come to realise is an intrinsic style.

Recently I’ve been thinking about those postcards that were treasured , sewn, embroidered or painted and sent to someone to be kept, re read and maybe even framed if not placed carefully in an album. I wanted to paint snapshot moments of florals in oils and make them affordable and personal. These mini postcard paintings are a beginning and the teapots another story!

There is great excitement in the gallery as we plan a pop-up exhibition for February 2022! Entitled Modern Love the exhibition will run from February 7 th to 21 st . (As the annual day of love, aka, Valentine’s Day, falls neatly within the run of the exhibition, we felt compelled to take a fresh look at our art, from a loving perspective of course!) Our featured artist is something a little different this time. We feel sure his collection will spark interest, curiosity, and conversation. In a further nod to Valentine’s Day, and specifically love, (yes, we are going all out in a lovely way), we have invited our artists to look at the relationship they have with their art and how love inspires them. Essentially, we have asked them to pop on some heart shaped glasses, and write about loving their art. It is all sure to be a bit of fabulous February fun!
